Still a Major Preoccupation ?
Introduction
With globalization,
the rapid expansion of new markets and continuous scientific discoveries, people
have come to feel protected by progress in medicine. Development breeds
a sense of safety, whether physical or material. While the economy, jobs
and worries of everyday life are still main concerns, hygiene problems are
no longer perceived as paramount.
However, although modern science may shield us from the plagues of the past,
carelessness can be enough to enable germs to reappear in a variety of guises.
Indeed, it seems difficult to believe that tuberculosis, which was thought to
be almost eradicated, is making a disturbing comeback in Europe.
